I had difficulty deciding whether to give Renard or Truble the number two spot. I believe Renard has a very strong sense of personal honor, as in his word is his bond. So I suspect if he tells you he has your back, he actually has your back. Until he gives his word though, well that is another matter. I gave Truble the nod over Renard simply because she is younger and more idealistic. If she was older I would reconsider.
Note that in 2.13, “Face Off” after the brief fist fight, Renard returns the key he stole from Nick’s desk. Renard claims he wants to protect the key from falling into Adalind’s (and subsequently, his brother’s) hands, something that would mean the death of both he and Nick. Renard goes on to confess to Nick that he knows he is a Grimm and that he was the one who woke Juliette up from her coma, in addition to woge-ing in front of him and giving the key back.
Renard also tells Nick that he doesn’t want the thing with Juliette to continue, making Nick’s job to bring the two of them together to administer the cure much easier. That was his word.
The “cure” for the Renard/Juliette thing is administered. Renard promised to stay away from Juliette. If his sense of personal honor was to end any involvement with Juliette, then why was he shacking up with her? Why did he take advantage of her hexebiest caused derangement and start up the hate sex again in 4.17? Renard’s behavior with Juliette was a heinous violation of his duty as Nick’s Captain, and a personal betrayal of Nick.
He puts anyone in harm’s way if it fits his selfish arrogance. He has no honor and his word is worthless.
His duty to Portland is to serve and protect all citizens, not to have a “jolly good romp” and murder prostitutes.
I would not trust Renard to park my car.
