Just my guess but Nick and Hank look from the start to maybe the lead detectives. We not sure what episode learn from Hank talking to Wu that Nick can read people I.E. his first sighting of Adalind knew she was lawyer and etc. I take Hank as the senior officer as with the coins episode he says he is the lead on this of course he is high on coin "power". I may be reading more into the character development that is not there granted.(07-17-2015, 05:45 PM)jsgrimm45 Wrote: Now the question becomes which Sean will win? I really don't think we were ever given enough background about Nick to determine his innate character. We just were introduced to him and have drawn conclusions based on a small slice of his life. For instance, for all we know prior to Grimm #1 Nick could have been the dirtiest cop in Portland, maybe shaking down hookers for freebies, taking drugs from dealers and reselling them, or Nick could have been the biggest boyscout on the force, incorruptible and idealistic with a zeal for righteousness. That type of background could have easily been established by having other officers discuss Nick in passing etc, but that never happened so we are left to draw our own conclusions.
With Sean it is actually easier. It is apparent he has he respect of his juniors - period. Cops talk, the think he is a choir boy. Given cops bet their lives daily on their ability to assess character it is doubtful they are wrong. And I think it supported to an extent by Renard's conflict over the the Jack killings. So I really don't see Renard, on the whole, as dark as some seem to perceive him.
One of the things that is odd about Grimm is the writers do not treat it like a police show at all, which of course is their prerogative (part of why I think it is easy to delve into other Grimms if they chose). But by not doing that, at least in passing, they by pass chances to enrich the backgrounds of the characters through authoritative third party commentary.
So far every one in Renard precinct looks to be clean and on top closing case (of course all the cases are wesen so a Grimm has the advantage) in Portland but as you say just because we not seen any corruption doesn't mean there isn't any. Looks also that this division is a homicide division because we not dealing with drugs or those type cases I see less chance of corruption. Even the zombie case started out with what looked like a homicide.
Using those ideas @izzy for the discussion what would you add to Nick character? Would a your character development (and I agree the police side of Nick could be thin as what was his record before Grimm) I could see this as a reason to stay or as a reason to leave the PD? I have my option but could change my mind based on your added development. Thanks
In a way we do know more about Sean than Nick also agree that he isn't as dark as he looks, I see some of his actions as self defense with life he was forced to live.
