New Guy, there are numerous discussions on the board about how Juliette did Nick wrong, even more if you add in discussions about something else that turned into how Juliette or Adalind or Renard did Nick wrong, or anyone else that might have hurt his feelings at one time or another. This thread discussion is about the women of Grimm, how they are perceived based on their decisions and behavior and how they compare to real-world women & situations, and how/why they react to other characters. Please join the discussion, but please note that the discussion is not about Nick, the central character, the hero and whether he thinks Juliette betrayed him or how he feels about it. The discussion is not about Nick in any way, it is about how/why the women view & react to the male characters & events in their lives.
So let’s discuss Juliette…
Juliette was introduced as an educated professional working in an established veterinary office/clinic. She appeared to be financially independent, confident, and emotionally healthy, in love with Nick, believing he loved her, and wholly committed to their relationship. Had Nick not begun acting strange, become secretive, etc., it seems reasonable that Juliette wouldn’t have hesitated to move forward when he proposed.
What does seem unreasonable to me based on the character introduced is that, after learning Nick had lied & kept secrets and suffering the horrid repercussions of Adalind’s cat scratch spell & Renard’s counter spell, Juliette took it on the chin and resumed her relationship with Nick. To me, S1 Juliette would have put some distance between her & Nick until she could work things out and decide if that was the kind of life she wanted.
Had Nick shared his secret identity & it’s dangers and the threat of Renard & Adalind, Juliette might have managed to thwart Adalind’s cat scratch spell when she showed up at the clinic. And you’d think Juliette would have seriously considered how Nick’s dishonesty about something that had so much impact on their life together not only put her at risk but almost killed her.
I can totally see Adalind taking it on the chin, staying for more, and blaming everyone except the person who lied & put her at risk. She did it with Renard in S1 and she’s still doing it in S5 with Nick & his friends.
The other thing that puzzles me is the extent Juliette wanted to be involved in the Grimm world. In a real life situation, an undercover cop/agent/spy/whoever isn’t going to involve his civilian wife/girlfriend in surveillance, shootouts, arrests, kidnappings, killings, whatever he might be involved in. Was Juliette determined to a part of the Grimm world because it was an innate part of Nick - she learned to actively participate in his Grimm life so she could be with Nick , or was she enthralled by the excitement and danger?
