I think someone was hoping that having ISIL-like terrorist enemies would somehow draw new viewership. Didn't make sense to me, because the show is basically escapist fantasy. They'd have been better off having a wesen version of Ernst Stavro Blofeld sneaking nukes up the Columbia River in some kind of billion dollar extortion plot and hooking Nick and the scoobies up with some James Bond or Jason Bourne sort of character with a lot of cool toys. It would have been no less dumb and there could have been way more gunfights, explosions and maybe a chance for a giant mass commando operation on the new Tillicum Crossing bridge like in an Avengers movie. The ComicCon crowd really eats that stuff up.
If any of the scoobies survive the finale, maybe they can get jobs as SHIELD agents next fall. Oh wait, wrong network.
