Wesen still attack Nick just for being a Grimm and that is why his son is at great risk. Wesen could want to kill him and other Grimm children to prevent them from becoming a Grimm. Since they get their powers later on average than wesen maybe that is part of the reason they hide their families from the wesen world.
Women characters do not have to be having sex with the lead to be important to the story.
