Meisner threatening to kill Eve if she ever let Juliette out doesn't make sense, because she could kill him in an instant. He'd just watch out for signs the conditioning was failing and if it did would kill her without any warning.

When Meisner told Juliette, "you're dead but you don't have to stay that way", I always assumed she accepted his offer. So he makes her into Eve.
But if that's the case, why the physical and psychological punishment then?
