So using this idea of intent isn't a self righteous double standard. May be the same action but with different intent changes the rules.I copied this example from the Eve Adalind thread:
Nick never questioned his right to arrest the man who avenged his son’s murder. There wasn’t a crisis of conscious or any guilt that Nick struggled with. At no time did he consider that killing Kenneth for revenge compromised his ethical duties as a police officer. But then neither did Hank.
Nick committed murder when he killed Kenneth. Hank and Wu were accessories to murder. Why do their reasons for doing it matter, if the same consideration wasn’t given to the man in Maiden Quest? Other than it’s okay as long as it’s Nick or his people committing criminal or immoral acts?
What was Nick's intent when he killed Kenneth? What was Adalind's intent when she took Nick's Grimm?
In a murder conviction, the guilty criminal may be issued a death sentence and executed:

Executions in the US are still allowed in some states:

In Grimm when the Kehrseite laws cannot work, Nick must apply Grimm/Wesen rules. In the case of his mother, the Kehrseite laws had declared her dead years ago. However, she was very much a living Grimm. At the order of King Frederich, Kenneth, Hexenette and the Verrat thugs planned, then executed the murder and decapitation. They also murdered several neighbors.
As I watch Grimm, I see Kelly, Marie, Nick and Trubel all making decisions to kill Wesen. Many are killed in self defense. Others are killed to protect the innocent.
In the case of Nick avenging the murder and decapitation of his mother, he was enforcing Grimm Law against a criminal killer. Nick filled his Grimm duty to society by delivering Kenneth just deserts, aka Grimm Justice.
Hank and Wu are trained police and aided in the capture of Kenneth. They knew Nick would either kill Kenneth or die trying. They decided if Kenneth survived, they would finish the job. IMO, their decision was personal and made based on their understanding of how the Grimm/Wesen world works. In a fantasy show, there comes a time when Kehrseite laws must be set aside and just enjoy the action.
