I knew he was tall but when he walked up to Adaline he was almost in shadow. And he towers over her like a building..lol he also has big feet....never notice how tall he really is....
The same with Silas Wier Mitchell. You don't notice it because he slouches a little. David G. is only I think about 5'10", which isn't SHORT, but is not really all that tall, and if you know what to look for you see all sorts of little directorial tricks they use to make it look like Nick and Hank are about the same height and that Monroe is not all THAT much taller.

I found some info
Sasha R. is 6'4
Silas Weir is 6'2
David G is 5'11
Most actors exaggerate their height a little unless they are VERY short or VERY tall. You'll see statements that Tom Cruise, for example, is 5' 10" or 5' 11", when he's 5' 9" at best.
I think casting a taller actor at Nick would have been a mistake. The whole point is that Nick is a nice, normal person who suddenly has it thrust upon him that the world is a much more complicated, mysterious place than he thought it was, and he's forced to find the resources in himself--ones that nobody (least of all himself!) thought he had to deal with it. (Sort of like Bilbo in "The Hobbit", when you think of it.)
I met Charlton Heston once I'm 5'8" at that time just was exactly average, he was shorter than I was. Just goes to show don't believe what you see on screen.
