When I was a child I did not know what my parents were worried about, until I was drafted to be the bartender at their parties(no joke-I was mixing drinks at 8). I started to hear about all the hanky panky that was going on, people with marriage problems, drug problems, scandal that was not on the front page of the local paper. I heard about crooked politicans , only in it for themselves. When Vietnam began, many of my generation realized there were "leaders" who were willing for those of us who were non-elite being killed to further their power. I could go on, but there is no need to dwell on all the happy paths of the past. We are more willing to reveal everything today, when it used to just be hushed up around the kids. Thats how I sometimes get through the day, dwelling on all the Happy Happy, Joy Joy of my youth.
As a student of history and military veteran, I acknowledge your points. However, there are a few thing nowadays that do disturb me. One is the crudity and vulgarity of our society.
People are just downright damned rude these days!
There is a reason for civility. One of which being keeping things calm and peaceful. Be polite. You never really know to whom you may be speaking.
Another thing, the fact that these young street thugs are willing to throw down over nothing! They kill each other by the dozen nearly every day and it's for nothing!!
The news media blathers all day, and for weeks, about some white cop who shot a young black man. But, they never even mention the dozens of young black men killed by other young black men over that same period of time!
This is a very real problem. And I wish to God we had a media and political leaders that had the guts to actually face reality and end this pointless slaughter!
But, because of political correctness, they are too damned yellow to even admit its going on!!
