Basically you don't have to introduce the audience to a Hexenbeist or a Grimm or any other critter and waste time with that and could work on character development and plot lines.
When you mentioned Columbo, McCloud, and McMillan and Wife, the common element between them was that they often solved mysteries, generally involving murders. Sure, there was some personal interaction at times, but it was definitely on the backburner.
Are you saying that story involving Grimm B would not involve fighting wesen because we already know Grimms fight wesen? Instead the stories would focus on the Grimms themselves?
Maybe I'm completely missing this, but isn't that a tad on the boring side? If Grimm spins off to another story about Grimm B, I want to know how he/she fights the Wesen and I want to see the Wesen. I'm not against seeing a personal life at all, that's part of my argument with Juliette being ushered out of the series. But we all know all personal life and nothing else isn't the formula for a hit series involving ultra humans.

You can have her haunted by past sexual abuse themes to add depth to her character, maybe college student working to become a counselor by day, Grimm avenger at night etc... (suggested just so you can see how divergent the story lines can be) or whatever. the idea is Truble does not need to be a cop, she can be anything outside of her Grimm life.
Trubel is an interesting character, there's no arguing that. I'm not so sure I would want to watch a story involving her and only her though, just as I wouldn't want to watch a story involving Nick and Nick alone. The chemistry comes from all of the characters adding their depth to the story.

You might not be mistaken, wfmyers. It didn't seem to me that Nick had planned the ambush, but Trubel didn't come on the scene until later. She may have been planning an ambush and there could be flashbacks of this in the first episode of season 5. To be honest, the poison in this case makes a lot of sense to me. I understand it's used for ogres, but they weren't fighting ogres and as far as I know, there wouldn't be any reason the poison couldn't be used on Juliette.
I just asked the questions because I sometimes miss important clues in Grimm, like the poison. I think Trubel herself also provided a clue. She asks Nick what she should do if she sees Juliette, to which Nick replies, "kill her". That is exactly what she did. It'd be interesting to see the events that led up to that. It will also be interesting to see how Nick takes the death of Juliette at the hands of Trubel.
