Once upon a time there was a police captain named Renard who was the fairest cop in the land. Until one day a new detective came on the force. At first Renard mentored him and taught him everything he knew and the new cop, Nick, idolized Renard. But one day when Renard was looking through his magic mirror, the two way glass into the interrogation room, he saw that Nick was better at handling suspects than even Renard was. Nick was now the fairest cop in the land.
Renard did not want this to bother him. Nick was like a son to him. He should be happy his protégé excelled past him. But everyone is only human, and deep inside Renard began to resent Nick being better than he was. Just as her stepmother became jealous of little Snow White over time.
Deep inside Renard was a desire, not one he wanted to admit to himself, but still a quiet little fear that wished Nick would “lose heart”. Nick’s strength as a good cop relied on his confidence as one. If Nick were to doubt himself, just a little bit, he would lose his edge.
Nick’s heart was Juliette. Nick was so in love with her that he made her into a perfect girlfriend who had no flaws. Juliette saw Nick as a hero, therefore Nick saw himself as a hero. But if Juliette was ever shown to be less than perfect, then Nick might doubt that her estimation of him as a hero was right too. That tiny little creeping doubt would enter Nick’s mind that he might not be so perfect a cop and that’s all Renard needed to take him down a peg.
Nick however still idolized Renard and never suspected the man did not have Nick’s true interest at heart. So when Renard started flirting with Juliette in front of Nick, when Juliette came to visit Nick at the precinct, when Juliette came with Nick to the dinner in honor of Renard, he put Nick and Juliette in an awkward place. Juliette could not insult her bf’s boss. If Renard was friendly, that wasn’t really flirtation was it and it would be rude not to respond in kind. And Nick can’t really believe than Renard would undercut him, his great mentor, and he doesn’t want to believe Juliette would either, so Nick pretends he sees nothing.
Until Renard up the anti. He comes to Nick’s house and makes an outright proposition to Juliette. Juliette can no longer ignore his meaning and slaps him. She fires his gun to get him to leave. Nick wants to know why there are bullet holes in his house and Juliette doesn’t want to tell him his boss made a pass at her. She doesn’t want to ruin Nick’s career. But Nick thinks Juliette is protecting Renard not him and assumes it is because “Juliette has feelings for another man.”
Nick leaves the castle and moves in with Monroe in his cottage in the woods. There are at least 7 people who sleep at Monroe’s house at one time or another. Disney gave the dwarves names: 1) Hap Lasser is obviously happy. 2) Rosalee who mixes potions is Doc. 3) Juliette slept there once and she was sleeping beauty so she is “sleepy”. 4) Grumpy is Bart 5) Sneezy cause her eyes run all the time is Alice 6) Dopey is Detta and 7) Gloria is bashful.
If you can see that then I'll show you how Renard changes from the stepmother, to Adelind as the crone. In the Grimm version the mother disguises herself as a peddler and gives Snow white a corset that is laced too tight, and a magic comb before she gives her the poisoned apple. Adelind sneaks into Nick's house and steals a nightgown which when Nick takes it off of her later has laces in the back. And Adelind steals hair from Juliette's brush. You know, I do think that from time to time, there are allusions to the Grimm fairytales in Grimm. But where are the wesen, Trubel, Hank and Wu? In your theory, why do the characters, change (Nick from Snow White to Talia. Renard from prince to crone? Am I still missing the point of your post?
