I think that's exactly how Renard sees Adalind. I don't think the show ever even implied he sees her as anything more.Him wanting anything more from her at this point will be extremely OOC. I see nothing romantic in his character that would lead me to believe otherwise.
Renard's never valued Adalind even when she was a loyal henchwoman. I don't see him softening towards her as anything other than Diana's mother.
