Even after 123 episodes, there were still many more fables to adapt from the Grimm books to keep the series going.
WotW stories from the fairy tales ran out of steam and ratings went into a death spiral from S03 on, but NBC kept the show on life support because it owned the production company and wanted that 100+ episodes and a proper finale to keep it marketable overseas and in DVD and streaming sales. Most everything in S04 and S05 we're attempts to find a new path to higher numbers, which never really happened, and S06 was all about getting to the end.

I don’t live in the US, and don’t know how to interpret these ratings, but this is the average numbers of viewers (in millions) per season: 6.35, 6.95, 7.97, 6.98, 5.97 and 6.07. Seemed to have a positive trend up to season 4, then a fall, but never any collapse.

Well yea, most of S2 was a disaster. The walking dead stuff was another bad choice and then the S3 build up to set up S4 is what I always said, was the killer. I enjoyed the beginning of S4, including Juliette becoming a Hex.
Lets all be honest, that ass kicking Adalind got when she waltzed in Nick's house to tell Juliette, she had no choice but, to go willingly with her as a hostage. What were those memorable line? "That wasn't a suggestion" "Bring it on BITCH". Tell me that wasn't one of you favorite scene sequences and lines? Still, to this point, my Fan Fiction still could have worked.
Like I said, if they did a similar build up to Juliette becoming a Hex early on S4 or the end of S3. With her not going postal and letting things work out between N & J, who knows, the show could have had a revival. IMO, The WOW parts of the episodes is what kept the show going more than the Nick and Juliette arcs.
You know you are OLD, when you see the Slide Ruler you used in college selling in an ANTIQUE SHOP!!
