So you believe they were "on the job" when they went to the spice shop?
Can one of you contributor remind this (cough) contributor of S1-E16, The Thing With Feathers, when Nick takes Juliette an a weekend getaway, to propose and gets rejected. He is not only off duty for the weekend, he is also out of his jurisdiction and guess what? He has his gun with him. <<HELLO>>

I've watched The Wire and seen some of the detectives place their guns on their home counters. I think way too much is being made out of Nick and Hank bringing their guns to the Spice Shop. I'm certain they've done it plenty of times.
In the US of A, which includes Portland Oregon, cops carry guns when on duty, when off duty and after they retire. As for the retire category, I can not attest for all retired LE across the USA but for sure for most of them. I do know this as a FACT. In New York City, one of the most gun regulated city in the USA. Retired cops, Prison Guards and other retired LE Enforcement Personal including higher ranking toll collectors. They get a conceal carry permit for life. In Italy, Firemen carry pistols when on duty and off duty, if they choose to do so.
Do we all remember S2E2, The Kiss. When Nick teams up with his mom to go after the Mauvais Dentes Wesen sent to kill him? He ends up taking a shot in the warehouse where the two FBI Agents were killed by that Wesen and he ends up chucking his primary gun in the river so when they fing the empty shell it ca't be traced to him? Do we all remember the FBI Agents investigating the murdered agents questioning Nick about the lack of a firearm on his side? Why did they question that? Because that is not the norm in America, CAPISCE?
What I find insulting, in all of this, is when someone whom THINKS they know about the subject on hand and then exposed of their ignorant knowledge of such a subject, refuse to face up and concede they lack the knowledge which is the base of their ignoramus opinions.
This ignorance of knowledge does not only apply to cops carrying guns. It also applies to the ignorance of so many scenes and dialogue of the show this Forum is named for. When you look at the top of this page it says "Grimm Forum" not "Juliette's Forum". Their ignorance is doubled when "SOME" wonder why they don't get respect.
You know you are OLD, when you see the Slide Ruler you used in college selling in an ANTIQUE SHOP!!
