I know next to nothing about how far ahead shows plan their story arcs and how characters will act in Season 2, 3, 4, 5, 8. I always figured one reason shows make a big deal of their 100th episode because so few make it that far. I would guess than when they are pitching the show they talk about the characters for season 1, as the writing goes along they change the roles and weights of them, if they make it pass renewal for season 2 they celebrate and then start to decide what the hell to do next. As I remember it, Nick and Hank's actors' names are the only ones mentioned in the opening credits, the writers probably did not know who would be important in season 4. I doubt Wu and Bud knew their bank accounts would fatten up that much If the characters in Grimm had not changed, the show would have grown predictable and been a lot less fun.
