Diana is what she is because of Adalind. Diana would be a two year old child with no connection to the underworld. If Adalind had not made the deal and performed the ritual.
If not for Adalind putting Diana up for sale. Then having a Royal blood test. She would not have had to hide all her life. The royals would have not known she existed.
People want to absolve Adalind because she changed her mind and started to care for Diana. It is to late the damage is done. If nothing else something is coming and Diana is connected. A situation created by Adalind's self serving actions. It is like a mother who choose to get high and party while pregnant. But now want everyone to see her as a good mother now that she is sober.
Women with drug or alcohol issues are often given their children back after completing treatment programs. Adalind being a good mother for Kelly for a while was like completing one of these programs. If anything people often try harder to help these women stay with their children and do not name call them.
Women characters do not have to be having sex with the lead to be important to the story.
