I am half-deaf and it has helped many times. It's weird with close captioning. When the program airs for the first time, I have noticed some stations don't offer the captioning. If I watch on demand, the captioning will be available.
I actually watched the episode tonight. I didn't really think it was too bad. I saw a couple of nods to Jaws in this episode. I wasn't going to say anything about it, but my husband piped up, particularly the kids swimming at night and the monster looking up at them from below. I also rather liked that Juliette livened up a bit from her robotic self.
I can't say how many posts I have read that stated Juliette could never understand Nick's world. It was kind of an ironic twist to show Nick fumbling around and not being able to understand Eve in her world. I was about to give up hope on this whole Eve thing. Now it might be rather interesting.
Thanks for the tip about closed captioning, irukandji. My daughter, who doesn't have a hearing problem like us, is actually the one who got me started using it a few years ago. I'm so dependent on it now that I keep it on all the time. The only thing it isn't too useful for is live broadcasting, like a newscast, it skips and picks up mid-sentence. It's probably just me but even with that, I can't completely keep up with fast speakers because the sentence goes off the screen to make room for the next when I'm about three-quarters through reading it, haha. I'm doing everything slower these days, so why not reading - aging ain't for sissies! Thankfully we have fast backward on reruns.
But seriously, I'm resisting every step of the way to Juliette's character change over the last season and this one. I was so happy when she and Nick were just an ordinary couple trying to come to grips with his role as Grimm. But I'm slowly letting myself consider her in her present incarnation. Still very conflicted, though. Up to now, Nick has shown a young man's typical cluelessness to the needs of the feminine psyche, imo. Dunno, maybe I have it wrong, but I think he's still deeply in love with J and is in some kind of half-fugue state of mind where she's concerned. This situation is so complicated that it's impossible for me not to oversimplify any understanding of it. So I just go along ignoring it.
It's an old movie you may not have seen, but I was getting flashbacks to "The Creature From the Black Lagoon" during this episode, along with hearing that scary Jaws music as the lake monster was swimming up to his victim!
