I agree. She had to give the same consideration to Kelly as well. Then once she was able to then she would have picked up the fight to get Diana.
When Diana was brought back, Renard still used the child as a bargaining chip. Not that he was trying to re-unite mother with child. There were strings attached and she needed time to figure out her next moves. Then Bonaparte helped move things along quickly. Her choice then was to have both kids with her since none of her options were better than the other.
