Good point. It seems very strange and out of character that Kirk would be so cheerful not only when he arrives in the 1930s, but throughout most of the episode. People like it because it's fun to watch him banter with Spock and Keeler. But, I don't think that would be the attitude of a captain who's just lost his future. He doesn't even know if he will successfully straighten out time.
