How could he be in control of it he’d no context to work with, a time reset has never been done or even talked about before on the show or hinted at and he was totally shocked to be back in Monroe’s living room with everyone alive. His words oh my god your alive, I thought you were all, This all happened on screen what didn’t happen on screen was Nick shown to be commanding the staff to do anything not once infact all he could do was stab Zerstorer with it, Nick didn’t know what happened once dragged through the Mirror he literally couldn’t believe his eyes at first he was stunned to see Adalind alive, hardly the reaction of someone knowing what the hell was going on.
If the writers wanted us to think Nick could control the staff they surrely would have had him demonstrate this in an obvious way instead they had him use it as a spear against Zerstorer and he literally had to be dragged through the portal.
