Both are outside the boundaries of marriage, but both women were committed to their men and seemed to be in love with them. I think the same was probably true of Elizabeth because she hung around long enough to not only get a baby out of the relationship, but went on the run with baby in tow and raised the baby. Renard seems to have the utmost admiration for his mother so I would say she probably devoted herself to him as well and so sluttiness was the furthest thing on her mind during those days.Since Renard was manipulative and callous, used people then sacrificed them when no longer useful to him, Elizabeth was either oblivious to her son’s behavior or went along with it. So did Renard learn this from his mother or was she unable to prevent him from becoming this kind of person? Either scenario is speculation because the show didn’t give us any facts to go on other than Renard’s moral fiber which may or may not be attributed to his mother.
