Good question about getting his blood in her. There were a million ways Nick could have done that but he didn't bring relevant tools to get the job done,he chose to kiss her instead.
The morning after scene is possible about how things had come between them because after that flashback, Nick doesn't scramble away from her, I think he even rubs his thumb against her shoulder or something, an act of intimacy. Was he in love with her in that moment as Monroe would later ask? I don't think so. I think Nick's feelings are shown to progress from episode to episode they just have reached the point where he can shout it to the roof tops that he's in love with probably because it's a daunting thing to admit to oneself after the history they have.
