Adalind was not playing Nick. There was no long con going on. Adalind put all the issues her and Nick had aside for the sake of her son and safety. We know that this show doesn't do subtle often and what we see is what we get. Adalind really was afraid to sleep alone. She was without her powers and the first time she felt safe enough to be alone was when she regained her powers and told Rosalee she didn't have to stay at the fome.
As hard as it is to believe, Adalind actually has a strong affection for Nick and truly wanted things to work out between them. She was telling the truth when she told him she felt like the elements of the universe were conspiring to keep them apart. Adalind was on her best behavior in season 5 because her character was being reformed and she was with Nick who was the first person that wasn't trying to actively manipulate her. They have a different problem when it comes to trust but something like hiding the stick doesn't register as manipulation.
