For now I'm leaning toward Adalind all her life has had to use her wares to get ahead so can she love in a normal way, or does she think only of what she needed to do in the past?
LOL....really? We are both guys and we both know how young guys are. When the series started Adalind was a 30-31 year old, totally hot, single, CHILDLESS, lawyer, with a gorgeous smile, a come hither look, and a bubbly personality. A lot of fools would look beyond a lot of things with that list of characteristics. I am sure she would have had no trouble attracting men and could have found a sincere male to shed his affection and attention onto her.
I think her circumstances have greatly changed. She is now pushing up against 40, has never been married, and has two children by two different fathers. If I guy kicks the tires hard he will also find she was not in a serious relationship with either guy. So, pretty much she is going to be limiting her pool of potential suitors to guys who have no problem sorting trough the trash for other men's discards and want to play daddy to two other guy's children: so pretty much a dumpster diving cuckold is her target audience.
So I am not agreeing with the "all her life" comment. She had choices, and several that she made altered her circumstances and likely outcomes.

and
So in summary, I think it all was very consistent with Adalind, she was out for what was good for Adalind and simply applied her feminine charm to a manipulate an emotional adolescent trapped in an adult's body.
Nick is a big doofus so it isn't hard for me to believe he fell for a fake line from Adalind. However.....and I'm sure your wife will concur on this one, izzy: Women can and do use fake lines to get what they want. Trademark of the species.
That said, I'm not so sure that all of this is just a simple explanation of Adalind playing Nick 24/7. He didn't put her in a penthouse overlooking the Columbia with a Porsche and a nanny at her disposal. Instead she was stuck in a warehouse outside of town with a baby while he went to work.
If she was planning on using Nick, what an opportunity to snoop around and get the goods. Yet, as far as we know, she didn't.
I'm sure she was completely unimpressed with his lie that he didn't find anything in Germany. We don't see her sneaking around in the dead of night, trying to find out what's in the bag. Even after Nick hid it, we don't see her venturing down to the cellar to find out what it is.
Adalind herself has a history of reacting quickly if she's out to manipulate someone for her good or the good of the person she's working for. It doesn't mesh that it would take her months and months to play Nick all in the name of nookie.
People can only remain charming for so long when living together, but eventually the true nature comes out. If Adalind was using Nick, I believe we'd have seen the true uber bitch surface. I think we'd have also been given glimpses of unconventional behavior. For example, searching around the apartment to get the goods on Nick, talking on the phone to unknown people, or even leaving the apartment to meet various unsavory characters on the sly, like she did with Renard. We never see any of that.
The other thing we haven't seen is Adalind use magic or cast a spell to get what she wants.
I really think what we're seeing with Adalind and Juliette has to do with magic and that things are going to change in season six.
