Not fake at all. Everyone's impression is different. My impression of Monroe's father and mother (two of my alltime favorite characters btw), was that they were not traditional wesen.
Just to explain myself...
When I say Monroe father is traditional, I am using this meaning for traditional:

I looked at the http://grimm.wikia.com/ for the description of Monroe's father and the episodes where he apears and I found things like that:
He used the argument of "breaking the natural law" to convince Monroe to not married Rosalee. (natural law because they from different species).
Monroe's parents was described as old-fashioned...
Monroe leaves, saddened and angry about his parents living in the past.
Monroe's father tells him his "friendship" with a Grimm goes against everything they believe in...
That is why I am interpretating Monroe's father as a traditional person.
