I understand Nick is keeping his trips down into the tunnel a secret because that's where he put the stick. The problem is it flies in the face of why he moved there. He knew there were tunnels there that could be used in case they needed to escape. He told Adalind he was trying to get that door open to see what was on the other side for this very reason. It makes no sense for him to hide it from her because she would need to know her way around in case there was a need to get away.
Nick should have brought Monroe and Rosalee along from the start. Their knowledge of history and sense of smell would do wonders for the exploration down there. I knew Monroe would smell something as soon as he opened the door. It's gotten to the point where I shake my head any time he thinks he can do something without them. He remembered he knows how to fight when he faced the Inugami so I guess there's some hope.
