Which still leads me to believe that the creative team didn't know what to do with Adalind's character.

Possible. We don't have any insight into what they had in mind for Adalind before Claire Coffee told them she was expecting.

The writers must have had plans for Adalind. The connection between Nick and Adalind when she was a prisoner in the dungeon (early season 4) was never explained, so it’s likely that part was left out when the baby came into the picture (supposedly mid-season). They also had to bring back Diana and connect her to Nick somehow, which most likely would have involved Adalind – regardless of the royals.

Claire Coffee would already have been expecting when shooting for s04 began, so my guess is there was always going to be some kind of a connection between them as a result of the Verfluchte Zwillingsschwester.

Yes, even if Claire Coffee only learned about the plans halfway into season 4, they could still be in place from the start.

Almost certain that was the case. March-April was typically when they got the word from the network that there would be another season and planning and writing got underway. But from the article irukandji found they had a plot in mind for Adalind and planned on shooting around her pregnancy, then threw out that plan and wrote it into the season.

The baby was the big game changer.

RE: Eve/Juliette - FaceInTheCrowd - 06-25-2020

The baby and the relationship that followed could just as easily have taken place in the shadow of an ongoing was between our heroes and the royals. The royals and the verrat were always a much more ominous threat than BC ever became, and HW made the resistance look good by comparison.

RE: Eve/Juliette - irukandji - 06-25-2020

The baby and the relationship that followed would have never occurred, because there was not going to be a baby. Claire confirmed that the producers did not want to do another baby story. That makes me wonder what else had to change in order to write her pregnancy into the season.

Adalind carrying Nick's baby would inevitably lead to a triangle between Adalind, Nick and Juliette, but there are all sorts of ways that could have gone. They could have ended up all living together. It's Portland.
