"Grimm" will resolve its Juliette-tells-Nick-she's-a-Hexenbiest cliffhanger when the show returns Friday (March 20), and the future of the series' central couple is not looking good. It's a classic Romeo-and-Juliet tale, but just as that story has an unhappily ever after, is this romance fated for doom too?

"It's really just a question of whether or not Nick and Juliette are going to be able to stay together, because Hexenbiests are sort of a Grimm's mortal enemy," Bitsie Tulloch, who plays Juliette, tells Zap2it during a recent set visit. "It's sort of, 'How is she going to tell him? Is she going to tell him? When is she really going to tell him? And, really, what is his reaction going to be?'"

David Giuntoli, who plays Nick, places the blame for the couple's problems on the changes Juliette is undergoing as a Hexenbiest.

"Juliette is being mean to Nicky-roo," he quips. "I think her brain is weirded out. Becoming a Hexenbiest isn't something where you get a notice in the mail. Her brain is turning into something else. Part of her brain is human, part of it is growing a new lobe of evil and power. She's off. She's chemically off -- I'm just talking about Juliette, just to clarify."

When it's noted that maybe the "Grimm" writers are trying to make life difficult for Guintoli and Tulloch on screen now that the couple is dating in real life, he laughs it off. "If that is one of the reasons, I love them all the more for it, because it's just creative. They pull from everything," Giuntoli says.

Creators Jim Kouf and David Greenwalt don't seem to have any plans for Nick and Juliette to be happy together in the near future. The main "Grimm" couple have gone through a number of trials and tribulations in the past, but this one might be the deal-breaker.

Greenwalt says maybe they can have their happily ever after in "year eight or nine."

"It's just how they evolved," he says. "It's just playing it fair. What's the side effect of [returning Nick's Grimm powers]? Everything that happened, all that changing shapes and doppleganger stuff, has had an effect on everybody who played in that pond."

Both Tulloch and Giuntoli are excited about the new direction for their characters' relationship, and they're ready for things to get worse before they get better. "Happiness doesn't make good TV," Giuntoli says. "Happiness for a time makes good TV, but you have to tear it apart. I don't know to what extent the writers are going to tear us apart this time. It could be permanent, totally."

Just don't expect Nick to immediately rebound to a new lady if he and Juliette do break up -- even if she turns to someone else. "I doubt it would go that way. I honestly don't know, but if she went elsewhere to another man on the show -- say the Captain -- I don't know if Nick would just go for another girl. I think Nick would just turn very dark," Giuntoli says.

Tulloch has noticed some fans are taking a liking to the relationship growing between Juliette and Sean Renard (Sasha Roiz), who was the first person Juliette told about turning into a Hexenbiest. She says the fact she turned to the captain before her friends and loved ones will "put a strain on their friendship going forward."

"I think anytime Juliette shows up [Renard] feels very uncomfortable -- because of the history, because of the fact that it all boils down for Renard, no matter how many storylines there are, it always boils down to his relationship with the Grimm," Roiz tells Zap2it. "He can't mess that up, and she will invariably screw that up for him. ... He can't make sensible decisions with [Hexenbiests] around -- or at least that's how I explain it."
