@busyizzy Nah, that trap-plant reminds me too much of the ones in Mario Brothers to be afraid of it. I'd probably toss it some rats and keep it as a pet. Of course, in a secure pen lol
I was thinking something more like this...

This is one that is often talked about by my Greek friends, who refer to it all the time (well, their parents and grandparents do)...the chimera. Part goat, part lion, and part serpent....pretty much a crossbred nightmare.

well here is one i wouldn't want to meet up with in the world of Grimm a non-vesin creature Madusa and ether of her two sisters Euryale and Stheno. non-visen since they are immortal Titinaness's (the Gorgons) with the power to turn anyone to stone with a mere glance. would be fun for the make-up artests and more of if they are semi regular characters to help Nick with the non-vessin Creatures like the White Lady, Valcanalus, and the Gulium.

I discovered AD&D in 1980. I rapidly became the dungeon master for my group. I am not sure there is anything that gives me nightmares now. But I would think a cross between an actual chimera and manticor would be bad to tangle with add wings and give it flight and you would have something that could attack from any where rapidly.
Chimera have the heads of a lion, a goat, a snake, and the body of a cat. It can also breath fire. Now add the wings and the scorpions tail. to make it different have the tail inject sulfuric or phosphoric acid rather than scorpion venom. It would be a slower more painful death as the acid spreads and eats you from the inside out. In the case of phosphoric acid, the acid can spread to others through skin contact so your friends are in danger if they try to help you. Add venomous claws. If scratched you are infected with a paralytic agent. Not nightmares for me but I still would not want to run across one irl. Had fun doing this to players in the game. My players rapidly learned that it was best to carry items to id magic items and potions because I did give you what you needed to beat the up coming monsters but you had to know you had it. There were a couple of variations of centaur like insectoids that gave me the willies from various games. The only nightmares I have had for years is the one where you are sleeping and can not wake up. Sometimes I need to go to work, sometimes I have an appointment or a date, sometimes I need to get up to cook lunch for guests I am expecting but in all cases I can not wake up.
If I had something important to say, I would have mumbled it.
