Season 4 Episode 6
Highway of Tears

Air Date: November 28, 2014

Synopsis: The justification for Nick (David Giuntoli) to become a Grimm again is made much clearer in the wake of the most recent attack against Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) and Rosalee (Bree Turner). At work, Nick and Hank (Russell Hornsby) are called to a stretch of highway that acts as a staging area for a horrifying Wesen ritual. In Vienna, Viktor (guest star Alexis Denisof) meets with a completely broken Adalind (Claire Coffee), now ready to be of assistance in finding and retrieving the baby. Meanwhile, Trubel (guest star Jacqueline Toboni) is surprised by the sudden arrival of an old friend. Bitsie Tulloch, Reggie Lee and Sasha Roiz also star.

1) There was no need to drag out the re-Grimm-ification process so much over the last 2-3 episodes. Everyone is adults here...they're all acting like its the first time any of them has had sex. Also, why did Monroe keep asking? Couldn't he tell if Nick was a Grimm or not just by looking at him while Woged?

2) Kali-ma! Kali-ma! Too bad they couldn't have Wu come along and say "I love you Dr...er Det. Burkhart!". Also, how exactly do you hide a 50 foot tall idol to Kali in your junkyard?

3) Adalind's completely worthless. Her de-Grimm-ification lasted all of what, 3 weeks? She's not very good at anything she does. Viktor's probably better off finding Diana without her. Also, what was that whole surreal sequence last episode supposed to be? Was that supposed to be the "magic Hexenbiest dungeon" just breaking her will for Viktor?

4) In every way that Adalind's worthless and Juliette is mostly pointless, Trubel is becoming the only one with any sense about her. I love the way she just takes no crap from the guy shadowing her, she just slashes his tires. I really want to see Kelly and Trubel get a spinoff together where they travel the world just kicking ass and being awesome together.

My feeling so far is that ever since Trubel showed up the episodes are some of the best ever.
The balance between Wesson of the Week and the longer story arcs seem to be just about right. And there are so many longer story arcs going on at once. It might be one or two too many but I'm impressed that the writers can keep so many plates in the air. And I'm also glad that they trust their audience to keep it all straight.

The opening scene with the burning thingie, the dramatic music, the wind blowing, Monroe's eye glowing, might have been just a little over the top. But I liked it. I also liked that the actors got a little bit of an opportunity to shine. And it was a well written scene with all the characters staying in character. I especially liked Bitsie's acting and Juliette's resolve. but they were all good. I just singled her out cause for so long the Juliette character (if not the actress) got so much criticism.

Speaking of well written, the scene with Adalind and Victor was great. All the info being exchanged without any wasted words. And I am reluctant to bring this up. but I thought Adalind looked great in her little black dress. Judging by her composure - it looks like the old Adalind is back. Although knowing that Kelly is Nick's mom and has the baby and is a Grimm - I don't see how that is going to help him much. but its more than he knew before.

During the ritual in Nick's living room. Did anyone else find Elizabeth's line "just one less drop than last time" a little suspicious.
Trouble seems equally morbidly curious and creeped out. A little disappointed that Juliette didn't make any kind of bong joke.

I thought it was cool that Juliette tried to make "the best of it " in the bedroom.

I know Trubel is under age, but still it seemed rude for Monrosalie not to offer her a beer or anything else to drink.

A little disappointed that the best line they could come up for Juliette is that she didn't like being blonde.

Elizabeth is curious about where Adalind's mother got that hat. How many of you yelled "Hogwarts!" at the tv screen. But since its French it must have come from Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. Anyway, they are making a big deal out of it so I imagine it will play a part in a future episode.

Seems like the writers are setting up a Adalind vs Elizabeth showdown for some future episode. Not sure if Kelly will be there or not.

And when did Renard become so sure it was his child (and therefore his mother's grandchild)? Isn't there something like a 50/50 chance its his half brother's (but still the king's grandchild. ). I thought I remember him getting clued in on that - but maybe Adalind never mentioned the detail that she also slept with his half - brother? That would be just like her. but even so - Renard could have figured that part out.

Juliette's bike makes its return. I have been worried about it. There is a little lack of continuity cause we last seen it abandoned in the middle of the road. but us viewers can probably figure out some way Trubel was able to find it. Trubel is getting very comfortable and self assured with dealing with Wesson. Although i guess she has it figured out that Chavez's team isn't out to kill her (not yet anyway). The guy in the car - when he waged - have we seen one of those before? kind of like a leopard, maybe.

Gosh, Josh. Grow a backbone. he is such a coward. but I guess his reaction is probably somewhat realistic. Monsters! It also serves as a contrast and makes all our Big Damn Heroes look pretty good.

I wonder if we'll see that Deputy Sheriff again. Might be someone Wu ( who is still in the dark!) can commiserate with. Or maybe.... Anyone think she and Hank had a moment?

When the Scobie Gang has a girls night out -- Juliette brings the ammo.

So this WoW is Indian. Man, Grimm is pulling out all the stops in representing different cultures. Jewish, South American and now Indian.

Um. Josh, to use a machete, just keep the sharp end pointing away from your body. It's not that difficult. Swing for the bleaches.

- The effects people have a sense of humour; the hat did something symbolic concerning the spell.

- Juliette seemed to react to Monroe's wogt face when Monroe was testing Nick. I doubt the plan is for Juliette to be a Grimm permanently, but a little temporary insight into Nick's world wouldn't hurt their relationship.

- I think the statue in the junkyard was a reference to The Iron Giant.

Another good episode of Grimm. I really like how Nick was getting his Grimm powers back at the police station. Going back to episode one he first saw a vessen woge at the police station. Clever! Adlelind keeps making dumb decisions. What happen to her season one version? Juliette is now pregnant?

I was a little dissapointed by the ending. I thought when Josh was holding the blade he was going to say that is he a grimm as well.

Another Christmas Grimm show! Can't wait!

Gosh, I hope Josh doesn't turn into a Grimm, now that his father is dead. He is such a woos (sp?).
Besides it would be too many Grimms.
I think he would have already turned into one already. Nick started his change even before Aunt Marie was dead - just sick. Josh's dad was sick for a while before he died.

I usually don't watch the previews - don't like the spoilers but the last couple of episodes I have eagerly watched them cause I just can't get enough Grimm. But in case you don't.
Spoiler :
This Christmas episode looks just awesome.
Is Juliette pregnant?
If she is, does that mean when she transformed to Adalind her birth control didn't come with her. Or is it just another one of those little unknown side effects. And since she got pregnant while being Adalind, will the baby be half - hexienbiest. Man, Juliette thought she had a reason for hating Adalind before - what about now?

I really, really loved this episode. There were so many cute and clever scenes in it. Lots of memorable dialog, too. Juliette was way cool in how she handled being Adalind, she set the right tone and was sexy and sassy about having to get through what could have been such a damaging event for the couple. Kudos, kiddo; you're something else!

The WOTW story was a good one, too. What could be better than a some rusty old Chevy or Mercury reincarnated into a humungous statue of Kali. Throw in a pair of his and her holes in the ground for the requisite human sacrifice and you've got yourself a ritual. I've read many fictional stories about Kali over the years, that's one bloodthirsty deity. This one upheld the tradition with style, enjoyed it.

Trubel had a cute line when Monroe mentioned the threesome; she said she knew what 'convoluted' meant and deftly deflected a embarrassing situation among the nervous group. Smile And the way the three women exchanged looks and banter during the scene in the spice shop was priceless.

Juliette had severe abdominal pain before she returned to being herself and Nick seemed to have a corresponding pain in his head before becoming a Grimm once more. Wonder if that was part of the reversal process; don't remember pain being associated with the original spell. He's got that super sonic hearing thing going again, too.

I would just love it if Hank got together with that pretty police officer, I agree that he seemed interested in her. Hank's the man. He's so capable and unflappable, it's good to see him doing great police work again. Don't mind admitting that I enjoyed the close-ups of the Captain; that's one pretty man. Sorry to hear that Elizabeth may be leaving the show so soon, tho'.

This episode seemed to emphasize the camaraderie among the friends, don't know if I noticed because of recent postings about the dynamic of the gang or not, but their bond of friendship seems to be strengthening.

I agree with Lou that Adalind looked stunning in her LBD. Smile For someone whose spirit was supposedly broken, she seemed remarkably like her old cool, but defiant, self. We'll see about that.

Well, I really liked this episode. The other commentators have covered pretty much everything. Though I would like to add a few personal observations.

Adalind is still dumber than a box of rocks. She sits there and gives up pretty much everything she knows in return for dinner! What a yutz!Big Grin And Victor isn't much smarter. Don't know why some fans make a contrast between Adalind now and from the first season. She has never been anything but a tool and a fool. I had hoped that her captivity would send her completely over the edge into supervillian land, but think it's too late for that now.

I really miss Erik. The guy was so nefarious you just had to love him!Big Grin The show could use another really good supervillian. As Starfury and I speculated a few months ago, maybe a really smart, sociopathic wesen crime lord comes in and takes over Portland. Or, perhaps Nick crosses paths with a mercenary Grimm, who hires out as a professional wesen killer to anyone with money. I think both possibilities have potential.

Now, I'm not a prude and I'm all fine with a couple adding a little spice to the relationship. However, the fact that both Nick and Juliette seemed to enjoy that was rather disturbing!Tongue

Kind of wondering why the show brought the character of Josh back. The guy is such a woss that he would never be anything but a drag on others, just like he was on his Dad. If they are thinking of some kind of spin off with him and Truble I can only say "Good Luck with That Guys!"Tongue That would last about as long as a June frost in Hell.

Once again, my random rambling thoughts.

So glad Adalind is out of Wonderland/her cell. I did miss much of the conversation between her and Viktor, but I caught that they'd figured out Kelly has Diana. So now Adalind, Viktor *and* Elizabeth will all be searching for Kelly and Diana. I don't see that going well for Viktor ;D (BTW Viktor still fails at being menacing, just saying).

Speaking of Elizabeth, I'm going to miss her. The scenes between her and the Captain are so good. They help "humanize" him a lot. And I just like her. Hope they can bring the character back.

The potion making/taking part of re-Grimming ritual was just weird! All those people standing around, eeep! Talk about performance pressure. I really hope someone slipped Nick a Viagra.

Stepping out of the story slightly, I thought Claire Coffee did a great job with Juliette as Adalind. And I'm sorry to say, to me, she has way more chemistry with David than Bitsie does.

Juliette's bike is back! And I like how Theresa dealt with the guy stalking/tailing her. Nothing over the top or anything that might bring too much attention to her. And he deserved it, so did Chavez if that's the quality of people she has around her.

Poor Josh, he's just so out of his depth. I hope they team him and Theresa up. She'd make a good bodyguard for him.

BTW, I liked how it was obvious the women were going to be able to take care of themselves. I think it would be a very, very bad idea for those bigots to attack the Spice Shop with that group in charge of security Big Grin

Nick's re-Grimming scene at the junkyard was way to drawn out and I didn't like how sidelined both Hank and Monroe were. Still, Nick's joy at regaining his abilities was good to see. No angst there. Oh and I think we saw the return of his Zombie issues (pretty sure he went grey there for a bit while he was in pain). And his super hearing has returned, yay.

Did anyone else get an "urban legend" vibe from the case of the week? At least up until we got to the part about sacrificing people to Khali (sp?) and of course Kipling was a Grimm.

Oh and it looks like we may have just been introduced to Mrs. Hank #5 in the person of the woman sheriff (or is that just me?).

Tell Wu! BTW, Wu did seem a little less antagonistic/suspicious this time, wonder why.

Even though Wu doesn't understand everything that's happening, he at least got reaffirmation that Nick isn't on the side of the long-tongued monsters. That's got to restore some of his trust.
