How?Do you agree or disagree that whenever a group is singled out for a specific favor, that qualifies as discrimination? For instance, would you agree that if I decided to give $1 to every brown-eyed woman that is between the ages of 27-29, but I do not give $1 to anyone outside that group, I am discriminating against everyone outside that group?
Discrimination - nearly everyone is discriminated in some way, that's my opinion.
*clip long list of discrimination*
Just to reiterate what overturning DOMA did yesterday in America, if a same-sex couple gets married in one of the states where same-sex marriage is legal (e.g. California now), then the Federal Government extends governmental benefits to an eligible recipient's partner just as they would a standard married couple. The ruling did no more than that.
But single people do not receive a benefit of equal value in kind. Therefore, by the standard definition of discrimination, single people are being discriminated against in this ruling.
