TV characters almost always live lifestyles that would be beyond the means of real-life people doing the work the characters are depicted doing, especially when it comes to their housing.
Ignoring this, the only way Nick and Juliette could have afforded the house they had in the neighborhood they lived in - and all the repairs they had to do on it over the years - would have been if one or both of them had money of their own beyond what they made at work. Maybe Aunt Marie sold Nick's parents' house after they "died," and invested the proceeds well for him as he was growing up under her care.
