You are spot-on with that observation, Starfury. The King seems to be the real power behind what both Eric and Viktor do - although I think the King would side with his son if it came down to it. And Viktor would have to display far more of a talent for palace intrigue to outwit Eric and presumably his father, should the scenario arise! Even if it's because of the incompetence of his henchmen, the responsibility for so many failures (thwarted assassination attempt on Renard's life, letting Meisner escape with Adalind, losing Diana, etc) still lies with him. Bad track record so far. Of course, Eric wasn't batting a thousand either, but he was making inroads. Viktor doesn't seemed to advanced the cause of the royals at all.
But I like him. Maybe he would hit his stride by throwing down with such worthy opponents as Eric (and Papa) and the formidable Captain. It would be such fun to see.
