However, they probably decided to make Renard a much greyer character then what they envisioned at that point. Episode 3 isn't that far removed from Renard ordering the hit on Aunt Marie. However, it's very far removed from Renard (a) saving Juliette or (b) killing his impatient cousin who wanted the key.
One of my favorite series of deleted scenes is from the episode with the Siegbarste. In that episode, we would have gotten scenes about Renard trying to negotiate with the Ogre to save Hank's life, but the writers probably felt it wasn't the right time to introduce the Verrat (i.e., it turned out that the Siegbarste was a hitman for the Verrat).
