They didn’t bring up the rape they are just saying that that some fans consider what Adalind did to Nick rape just like a great many fans have always hated Juliette. They are just explaining the two separate sides of the debate. This should put it in better context. ‘‘Tis interview is taken from a fan poll G&k put out for Grimm fans towards the end of the show on yahoo.
DAVID GREENWALT AND JIM KOUF ASK: Who did you want Nick to end up with — Adalind or Eve/Juliette?
DAVID GREENWALT AND JIM KOUF RESPOND: Greenwalt knew this question would mobilize Grimmaniacs and both guessed that Adalind would win the popularity contest, but they didn’t think it would be by such a landslide. “I know there are some rabid Juliette/Eve folks out there because I hear from them,” Greenwalt said. “Guess she did some bad things, but it wasn’t really her fault.”
The ire toward Juliette is something they were aware of, as is people’s belief that Adalind raped Nick. “There’s a very modern, cutting-edge issue for ya. You have to remember that Nick was there to protect his son before he fell for Adalind,” Greenwalt said. “There’s a line in ‘Blind Love’ where Eve says under the influence that [Adalind] had the baby they should have had. But there is a scene coming up where Nick and Juliette are talking about how everybody changed drastically in the course of six years, and it goes into larger issues than who did what to whom. Is happiness or having a purpose the point? Would you go back if you could to some more innocent time? Probably not. That’s a big life lesson. You get your nicks and scratches, but you go forward.”
GREENWALT AND KOUF ASK: Who is your favorite character?
ANALYZING THE ANSWERS: Nick, Wu, and Adalind held their own in this category. Bonnie Davidson defended Nick as the right choice, saying, “Not only is he an attractive man, but he also has a good heart, and him being part of the Portland PD was a good choice.”
But it was immediately clear when combing through questionnaires that no one could hold a candle to the lovable and fiercely loyal Monroe. People adore his personality, his bromance with Nick, his devotion to his wife and coming-soon children, his quirky habits, and his sense of humor. The only thing that seemed to bother people was that they never learned his full name.
GREENWALT AND KOUF RESPOND: Both men knew Monroe would be the man. Kouf says Monroe “has always been the most popular character since we started the show and is the most fun to write.” (For the record, Greenwalt thinks writing dialogue for Bud is more fun, because “he has no governor on the id. He just spews whatever is in his brain.”)
They credited Adalind’s second-place showing with what Greenwalt calls “her amazing transitions” and “interesting journey,” which led her to “become beloved.” Kouf added, “She’s had the wildest character ride, having slept with Renard, causing so much havoc with Nick and Juliette, having two kids with two different guys, and then turning around and falling in love.”
