You are trying to argument semantics for something that G&K admits they left as being ambiguous. They clearly state the leave it up to the view to come to their own conclusion what happens. For each scenario suggested he answer if there is a probability of that being a true out come. That does not mean that is how G&K would write the story.
The idea that Nick and Adalind are together is as valid as Nick and Adalind not being together. The point is there is not right answer because G&K have not writen or considered what the relationship would be. And since that is true saying they are together is only one of many opinions. It is not fact. It could only be fact once G&K write it.
