I quit viewing Last Man on Earth when it was obvious after the first few episodes he was not going to be the Last Man on Earth and the show would soon have a bigger cast than Band of Brothers. I watched Failing Skies( ?) until they left that spider thing alone in a room, with no one guarding it. I watch a show to be entertained, if it fails to do that or if I hate the title character I look for something else. Worst comes to worst, I will read a book on home decorating.
I think this type of situation is different though. I think fans will want to complete a series that they've invested a lot of time in. It's much easier to quit a show after a handful of episodes rather than doing it after a handful of seasons. I don't think quitting a show before you truly get invested in it counts.
Dicappatore mentioned quitting GoT after a few episodes like you did with The Last Man on Earth. I criticize GoT a lot because I truly think it's been awful the last few years and is now the most overrated show of all-time but I loved it for the first four seasons when I thought it was great and the writing was much much sharper. I would've had no problem walking away from it if I thought it sucked right off the bat.
One show I quit after four years of watching it is Scandal because it got so convoluted and I wasn't going to sit through a full season. I think the only reason I can still watch GoT is because it's only 10 episodes per season and was only 7 for the most recent one.
I have always liked game of thrones and have had no real problems with the show in recent years ,in fact my two favorite seasons are 4 and 6 . I feel some people criticize it too much for time laspes and plot holes in the past couple of seasons . The most ridiculous criticisms I've heard is it's not realistic anymore ,when was it ever it's a fantasy show for crying out loud. The weakest season of the show by far was season 2 and from what I've heard the majority of people consider season 4 and 6 the best. I will say this though season 7 was a pretty average season but certainly better than season 2.
