Because it doesn't really need "keeping." It keeps itself.
We saw that the staff only serves one owner at a time (possibly, one owner at a time plus Diana, since she was able to handle the stick). Rosalee tried to use it against Z and it killed her. Monroe tried to pull it away from Rosalee and it killed him. Only after Z was killed could Nick safely handle it. Until he decided to give it away it would always be his even if he wasn't holding it, and for anyone who tried to take it without his blessing would be its own boobytrap.
In some ways that strengthens my idea that he has died. Because Kelly handled the stick; if it only serves one master at a time, that would mean Kelly was the next in line.

From his reaction when he saw that Sean had also been restored, I'd guess Nick hadn't actually given any conscious thought to bringing him back.
Think you're right about that. That staff is impressive; makes magic wands look like the second string.
I watched the episode three times. It was mostly about Nick and that's okay, but I would have liked to have had something much more definitive said about the underworld Z came from. I am guessing it was gone, like the 'no two bodies can occupy the same place at the same time' concept, but I require assurance.
Also, seems like we didn't need any of Diana's superordinary powers to get the job done after all. Kind of a letdown. But basically, it's all good.
"That stick you found, the one our ancestors buried, it's part of a much greater power. Guard it well." Talk about stating the obvious.
