Up until the end of S04 the long game was royals vs resistance, with the resistance in Portland basically consisting of Sean Renard, and Renard's biggest asset - maybe even his only asset - in the fight was Nick. Once HW revealed itself, Nick could have said, "yay, the cavalry is here, it's all yours, guys," packed his bags, bundled his son up (and yeah, that probably would have meant Adalind, too), waved goodbye to Portland and gotten himself hired on as a cop or deputy in some little town where his biggest wesen problem would be keeping drunken Klaustrech away from Reinegen. They did the same thing at the start of season 5 with Eve being the power. Now they made Diana the power. The series is Grimm and the Grimm should always be the power.
IMO Diana is a child so having powers does not push out the roles of Sean, Nick and Adalind in her life.
Women characters do not have to be having sex with the lead to be important to the story.
