I think that is David's interpretation of Nick. He's describing Juliette through Nick-colored glasses. Most actors talking about their characters will occasionally slip into speaking as if they are the character. It's not because they're method actors or are slipping into character, it's just the way they talk about their characters.
If actors give the impression they wish something had been done differently, it's because they think things would have been better dramatically or because it would have presented an opportunity to play great scenes, not that they feel their characters' regrets. Sasha has said he wishes Sean had had a confrontation with King Freddie. What he means is he thinks it would have been a great scene to do, not that he feels any of Sean's lack of closure with his father personally.
Asking Bitsie and Claire if their R/L relationship is affected by whether Nick would prefer Adalind or Juliette would probably have both of them looking at you as if you had a third eye in the middle of your forehead.
