My thought on this is that Nick should never be willing to have Adalind lie illegally for him, no matter what. I get what you're saying about her being demonstrative in her love for him, but for him to let her take that kind of risk.....he continues to prove what a worthless worm he is.
Adalind willing to lie for Nick's benefit but not Renard's is another example of double standards. It doesn't matter how Adalind personally feels about Renard, he is her daughter's father. Renard being charged with murder would have a negative effect on Diana. Plus, Adalind knew without doubt that Renard didn't kill Rachael.
