Zauberbiests and Hexenbiests cannot open each other spell books and do not see themselves as the same thing. In their marriages they keep secrets from each other. Adalind treats Nick like a Zauberbiest partner and she accepts that they cannot share information about certain things that Juliette or any other women from a developed country would never accept. As Adalind says “Trust is not a natural thing for us”.
Women characters do not have to be having sex with the lead to be important to the story.
