IMO Nick was not willing to risk Adalind or Kelly to get Diana back.Is that also what you think Adalind should have taken from their exchange? Because I’m wondering why Nick wasn’t capable of expressing any concern for the woman he’s living with or for her daughter. And why that wasn’t a cold slap of reality for Adalind.
Nick was so upset over losing Kelly that he couldn’t think rationally. Why was Adalind’s upset over Diana so inconsequential to him? Although Nick doesn’t care about Diana the way he does Kelly, wouldn’t he at least be able to rationalize that Adalind loves Diana as much as she loves Kelly?
I keep coming back to the same conclusion. Nick/Adalind only works if Adalind ignores the obvious. Even if Adalind is being portrayed as gullible and desperate, Renard would have used Adalind's house of cards with Nick to manipulate and confuse her in order to break her loyalty to Nick.
