I can see Adalind falling for Nick, or at least believing he has. He's probably the only person she has ever encountered in her life who extended a hand to her without an ulterior motive, and that came after she dumped a boatload of hurt on him. But because of her past, she's clueless about what a mutually caring and trusting partnership is, and she keeps expecting the other shoe to drop, that moment when she does something or Nick finds out something about her that will turn him against her the same way everyone else in her past has turned on her, or when he reveals that he's never really cared about her and was just waiting for the right time to demand something of her. So she doesn't need to be selfishly worried about being turned out onto the street; just being terrified of losing a man who she thinks is the best thing that's ever happened to her would be more than enough.
