You not only need to have Kelly give up a child for adoption, he also needs to be a grimm, and you also need to contrive circumstances that allow said child to discover that Kelly was his/her mother (when publicly she's dead), and more circumstances that allow him/her to find Nick. This gets really convoluted really quickly.
Nah man, the sibling wouldn't have to be a Grimm. It'd be awesome if that happened but it's not necessary. (Although what would be the point of a sibling that didn't have Grimm powers?) To paraphrase Whitman for my own purposes, I know I contradict myself here. Oh well. I contradict myself.
There are other situations in which a potential sibling could turn up. Maybe Kelly could be living in an enclave of the last Grimm and having more of their kind is a priority? That'd be slightly gross (it'd essentially be advocating breeding programs) and awesome (because Grimm are badass) at the same time ...
That it could get contrived easily isn't anything I'm going to argue. But I'm a fan of Once Upon a Time and an "afficionado" of '80s B-movies, so I've seen worse plotting. And worse sibling characters. I lived through seeing Dawn on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. So I have a high tolerance for ideas like this, which is why I think it could work. Anything could work if it's done well enough.
I do like the idea of Nick having a cousin though, as I put in a prior post in this thread. Marie could have gotten up to anything when she was "away". Or she might have even had a kid with her former fiance, the Wesen Farley Kolt.
I understand where you're coming from (sibling characters/"cousin Olivers") can be a sign of bad, dead-end plotting, but they sometimes work. Even a bad plot can have good days in the right hands. It's not impossible just because it's overdone or not to everyone's tastes.
As a reminder, we're all spitballing here. This is a wish-list/speculation/wild theory thread. Facts and logic don't really need to apply (although it's nice if they do) when we're just going "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if ...?"
