Episode 9 of season 1 (Of Mouse and Man) wasn't even loosely based on a fairy tale, and the opening quote was from Steinbeck.
I think an episode strongly connected to one of the fairy tales would be good every once in a while, but at this point, this show is pretty much Buffy with wereanimals (werewolves, werefoxes, werecoyotes, etc.). Though, if the formula isn't broken, you probably shouldn't try fixing it.
