After I was so disappointed by the first issue of "Grimm – the warlock" I didn’t expect much of the second one. My impression is, the warlock-series has a focus on Portland and its architecture; we had the basketball stadium in the first issue, now the Pittock Mansion in the second. A comic book like a sight-seeing trip. I shouldn’t look for a good story .
Monroe is at the Pittock Mansion to service the numerous valuable clocks inside, when the gardener comes running; he just detected a hiker who fell down a lookout point and broke his neck. A metal detecting device is found next to him. When Nick arrives, Monroe tells him that he knew the dead guy. Mikey Jarvis was a Seelenguter (we know them from "the good shepherd" S2E05) who went to the same Pilates class as Monroe. And no, Monroe didn’t push him, Mikey had an accident!
The victim is examined by the M.E. Harper, there is no sign of struggle, but Captain Renard tells Nick quietly that the Wesen community is concerned, so Nick decides to have a closer look. I don’t know why, but he returns to the (possible) crime scene in the middle of the night, alone, armed with a … flashlight. At the lookout point he enjoys Portland at night, right then he is attacked by a Scharfblicke (Owl Wesen) who tries to push him down like poor Mikey and succeeds. Only Nick manages to slow down his fall by falling though a tall tree, breaking some branches as he falls and getting quite some scratches.
Next day at the precinct Nick learns that Mickey was an amateur treasure hunter, as we already thought because of his metal detector, and Nick presumes he may has found something. Next night, he returns to the lookout point, armed to his teeth and accompanied by Monroe. No problem at all to catch the Scharfblicke. Nick brings him in, but the guy escapes his cell soon after he’s called his lawyer.
Last page we see the Scharfblicke reporting to the same guy as we’ve seen on last issue’s last page (I guess this is the "warlock" we were waiting for). Yes, it was the Grimm. And he can’t say if the Grimm knew about the treasure or not. As a next step the warlock plans to try something more direct. "The End."
