I know you're trying to piece this together logically but that doesn't work either. If Renard was even the least bit interested in finding out what Nick was up to, he'd find out. So Nick doesn't trust him, so what? That's never been a stumbling block for Renard.
Once again, why would any of this make Nick volunteer the info to Renard? Renard is free to figure it out but Nick's not going to just give out that info to him. He can't just be comfortable with the possibility of Renard not being interested, which would be highly unlikely had he known where Nick was going.
You're saying it's not a big deal Nick doesn't trust him. It's a very big deal. That's the reason Nick didn't tell him where he was going.
