Wither it is a military organization or a criminal enterprise. Though each demands loyalty they don't create it. You have to prove it. You can not beat loyalty into someone.
What you can do is beat and threaten someone to do something. No amount of indoctrination can force a position on someone. If that was the case then you could brain wash prisoner into being model citizens.
As far as how Meisner was treating Eve. There is a saying you don't know if you can take a beating until you take a beating. Why do you think a lot of gangs jump their members in. If your life is that of an assissin, violence including the crap getting kick out out you needs to be the new normal. For that someone is going to need to kick the crap out of you. As far as Miesner hitting Eve when wounded. That taught her a lesson. Always protect your 6. If you can't win don't attack. Eve attacking when she know she could not woge was a dumb move. Someone with training like she has now would never do.
Yes syscrash, there have been three members of my immediate family who have been in combat. How about you? Do you know anyone that has been in actual combat?
I'm not of the opinion that the severe beatings administered to Eve were an effort to get her in touch with her six. The first beating that Meisner administered occurred when she was helpless. Her strength was stripped, her powers were stripped, and she was critically injured. The only thing that beating taught her was that she was not in control. The more beatings she got, the less control she had.
Eventually, "they" took over. She wasn't Juliette, "they" named her Eve. What was done to her wasn't horrific, "they" felt it had to be done.

Oh yes it can. It's called Stockholm Syndrome. It doesn't happen to every single person in captivity, but it happens. In Juliette's case, it happened big time. She was indoctrinated into the ideology of HW.
