Greetings Grimm Fans,
There are eleven weeks until Grimm Season 5 will begin. There is a lot that happens in this show so I am re-watching Season 1. There is a significant relationship between Adalind, Renard and the Reapers. In 1.01 Marie arrives and Nick meets his first Reaper (Hulda). He attacked Marie and Nick killed him. His weapon (a scythe) was engraved "Reapers of the Grimms."
Then Adalind tries to kill Marie in the hospital. Nick stops her, but she injects him with her green poison. She runs out and gets in a car with Renard. He was not pleased that she failed to kill Marie.
Next a Reaper disguised as a priest tries to kill Marie. They fight and Marie kills him but dies herself.
In 1.04 another reaper shows up in PPD wanting to know who the cop was that killed his reaper buddy. Wu gets him to leave.
The reaper returns to his hotel room and finds Captain Renard waiting for him. Renard told him to stay out of the city and to leave the detective alone. When the Reaper objected and asked Renard why he was protecting a Grimm. Renard reminds the reaper that he should not have come to Renard's city without permission and that he should kneel before Renard. The Reaper gets on his knees. The captain denies the reaper's demand for vengeance in the death of Hulda and uses the reaper's own scythe to slice off his outer ear, telling him to listen better the next time he gave an order. Renard tells the reaper to leave and never to return.
Why did the reaper kneel to Renard like he is a king? Why can Renard use reapers to murder people? If reapers are a “secret order” how does Renard know how to contact them?
How did Renard get Adalind to attempt murder? What is their relationship?
There is much going on in just the first four episodes that could explain the motivation and objectives of Renard. By the 4th episode, Nick has learned that Adalind is dirty. She injected Nick with poison likely with intent to kill him. He confronted her about her vile deeds and she tried to use Nick’s obligation as a police officer to avoid Grimm justice. Unfortunately, Renard avoided detection by Nick.
